Four (4) Natural Ingredients To Keep Your Summer Skin Healthy
It’s almost summertime here (for our customers here in the USA). That means the days will begin to be longer, barbeques will become a frequent past time, and shorts and tank tops will more than likely become your clothing of choice. Naturally, your skin will be more exposed to the elements than it would be in the winter.
Why is it so important to take great care of your skin? Skin is the human body’s largest organ. It is the first line of defense when protecting your body from foreign substances. If your skin becomes damaged, you could become exposed to UV radiation, chemicals, diseases, and other pollutants.
Considering all these things, choosing the best natural ingredients to include in your skin routine is extremely important, especially during this time of year... Not only to make sure you’re looking great in your cute, summery outfits, but also to make sure your skin stays healthy all summer long.
1.) Water
We know what you’re thinking...water cannot be the number one (1) thing that will solve our skin problems... Can it? It is though! Water is critically important to solving almost every health issue that a human body can experience. 75% percent of Americans are walking around in a chronically dehydrated state. According to those statistics, it is no surprise that water is the first thing that people tend to forget about when starting any new healthy habit. Have you ever notice that celebrities and fashion magazines are always talking about products that create “dewy” skin? As a matter of fact, “dewy” is just a fancy word for hydrated. Water creates moisture in the skin, which helps promote healing and maturation (i.e. helps you age like a fine wine). According to dermatologists, dehydrated skin can make you appear older, look dull, and even wrinkly.
So when you are creating your skin care routine this summer, be sure to add “drink more water” to the list. Most adults on average need to consumeat least64 ounces of water a day. Not a fan of chugging tap water? You can also eat fruits and vegetables that have high water content (i.e. watermelon, lettuce, grapes, tomatoes, etc.).
2.) Rose Water
While regular water is great for improving overall health, rose water is currently trending as a top product in the skincare world. It’s not just because of its delicate floral scent - rose water has tons of medicinal benefits for the skin. The antioxidants in rose water help to protect your skin cells from damage. It can also help soothe your skin and reduce redness, which is imperative to skin care considering we spend more time outside in the harsh sun rays during the summer months.
3.) Shea Butter
Shea Butter is a product that many top beauty bloggers swear by, but shea butter is not a recent discovery when it comes to the skin health world. Shea Butter derives from the seeds of a Shea tree. Its origins began in West Africa in an area known as the “African Shea Belt.” Not only is shea butter rich in vitamin A, E, and F, it also offers UV protection, which again is an awesome benefit during those intense summer months. It is a great moisturizer for dry skin, which can be exacerbated by the time spent in the pool due to the drying effects of chlorine. It also helps reduce inflammation that may be caused by sunburns and acne. The best part - it isn’t expensive either... So be sure to include this skin necessity in your moisturizing routine for the summer.
All of our bath bombs are formulated to include shea butter. Hop in the tub with one of our mermaid daydream bombs for some relaxing, summer scents that will leave your skin feeling smooth and protected
4.) Avocados
You’re not alone if you only think of avocados when it comes to guacamole and chips at a Mexican restaurant. However, avocados are also great for skin health! They are full of vitamins A, B, C, and E, which all work wonders for the skin. They are full of healthy have minerals like potassium, phosphorus, and calcium.
Like shea butter and rose water, avocados are great moisturizers. The healthy, monounsaturated fats (oleic and linoleic acids) that avocados are full of help contribute to making your skin naturally hydrated. It prevents and treats acne by reducing the glands that cause your skin to secrete excess oil. It is also a great protector from dangerous UV rays and can work to smooth out wrinkles as well.
We make sure to add a healthy dose of avocado oil to each of our bath bombs. In conjunction with our blend of other ingredients (shea butter, essential oils), our unique formula will leave you with happy skin, keeping you vibrant all summer long.
If you’re looking for natural ingredients to include in your skincare routine this summer these four (4) are definitely ones that you should consider.
