1. WAKE UP YOUR WALLS
The #1 easiest way to refresh any room is by updating the color. Paint has the magical ability to instantly transform any room. If you're going for a spa-like feel try a bright warm-toned neutral. Feeling dramatic? Go bold with dark, ink blue and some brass accents in the lighting or other fixtures. But wait! Paint isn't your only option. Wallpaper is making a huge comeback in a really simple way. There are tons of sources nowadays for peel and stick wallpapers - easy peasy! Don't be afraid of a little pattern, this isn't that 70's, wallpaper everywhere vibe. Try choosing one wall to focus on, add you wallpaper to that wall and add a complementary paint color to the rest of the walls in the room. Accent walls are an excellent way to add drama without going too over the top.
2. BRIGHTEN UP BUTTERCUP
New light fixtures are a great easy way to make a quick upgrade. Matte black fixtures are trendy but also classic so they're sure to endure the test of time. Clear glass fixtures are an excellent way to showcase a fun Edison-style bulb if you're looking for an industrial or rustic look. Brushed gold-tone fixtures add an art deco feel that is very "in" in 2021.
Pro tip:Don't forget function! If you're adding lighting anywhere around your mirror (above or to the sides) you're going to want to choose a fixture that diffuses the light nicely so you don't have odd shadows falling across your face while you're trying to do your makeup.
3. LIFE OF THE POTTY
Plants aren't just for the garden! Bring a little life into an unexpected space. You can add a snake plant in the corner or a succulent on the window sill or you can go crazy and turn your spa sanctuary into a mini rainforest! Plants bring an element of brightness and rejuvenation to a room so why the heck not? If you don't have a window in your bathroom, you can always add some fake plants for a similar effect. There are some really amazing faux florals out there these days!
4. PERFECTLY PRETTY DECOR
Bathrooms are generally pretty small so it's the best policy to keep decor simple & minimal in this room. A pretty watercolor floral print on the wall or a simple quote can really liven up a space. Functional and pretty, you could try a small countertop tray showcasing some of your favorite, pretty beauty items or perfumes. Finally, a scented candle is absolutely necessary for those times when your washroom needs a fragrant little pick me up... if you know what I mean. Or for those times you just want a relaxing bath, the warm glow of a candle is just the icing on the cake.
Our recommendation: Jackpot Candles are designed to look great on your countertop plus, they're great for a self-care day (i.e. - find a surprise inside your candle)
5. UNDERFOOT BUT NOT OUT OF SIGHT
The days of those weird little bathroom mats you see in your great aunt's house are over. Runner rugs aren't just for hallways, they're perfect for bathrooms! Being that these rooms tend to be longer than they are wide, a runner lends itself to the slender layout of your lavatory. On top of that, runners are way cuter and come in so many more styles than their small bath mat counterparts.
Pro tip: To keep your runner from sliding on a tile floor, use rug grippers underneath or apply a few lines of silicone caulk to the backside of your rug.
6. THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN
Wall cabinets in a bathroom are a little dated plus they add unnecessary visual bulkiness to a small room. Our solution - shelves! They're very trendy right now and allow for easy access to items you may need to use on a daily basis. Shelves open up the space and give a light, airy feel to a little room that might otherwise seem crowded.
7. THE COLORS, DUKE... THE COLORS
If you aren't a huge fan of our dark-painted walls idea or if wallpaper patterns make you go cross-eyed, this update is for you! You can still have color even if it's not on the walls.
Step 1: paint your bathroom walls your favorite neutral color (creamy whites or even "greige" go with everything!)
Step 2:add pops of color in your shower curtain, towels & rug
Step 3:wanna change things up? Swap out the above items in a new color for an easy update!
8. MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL
You look right at it every day but it seems to get easily overlooked. While medicine cabinets are useful for storage, you may be searching for a look that's a bit more chic. For a rustic vibe, a large wood-framed mirror is a must-have. Maybe ultra-modern is more your style. A round mirror with a slim matte black frame is sure to be trending for the foreseeable future. Looking for a more glamourous lav? Try a bougie gold-toned framed mirror. It'll instantly add some drama to your morning routine... in a good way!
