Zesty and invigorating greenery. Minty undertones. A hint of fruitiness and freshly-cut flowers. Eucalyptus is a one-of-a-kind scent that is both camphorous and pungent (in a good way, of course). The leaves of the eucalyptus tree have often been used as a way to clear sinuses and for its antibacterial properties. It's unique scent profile also makes it a coveted commodity for inducing a relaxed mental state. When we were formulating our Eucalyptus candle, our hope was that we could bring those sharp, brain-invigorating scent notes to your home or office.
When you think of the eucalyptus tree, you're probably also thinking about cuddly koala bears. That's because the eucalyptus is native to Australia - but did you know, you can actually grow eucalyptus in most temperate climates? Eucalyptus is now farmed all over the world and harvested for its many holistic properties. Our goal when creating this unique candle was to embody the crisp scent of a eucalyptus grove... And we think we've done a pretty good job.
We know you'll love our Eucalyptus candle! Learn more about this spa-like scent in today's episode of Scent Spotlight.
Top notes: Eucalyptus, Spearmint, Lemon
When you first smell a candle, the aromas that initially waft around the room are known as the "top notes." The scent of a eucalyptus leaf itself is a top note, so expect a fresh, snappy aroma right away. Eucalyptus has a touch of mintiness to it, so expect to catch some vibes of menthol or spearmint as well. For added brightness, you'll also detect a bit of citrus zest, most often as a hint of lemon.
Heart Notes: Camphor Wood, Fresh Herbs
The "heart notes" of a scented candle begin to appear as the more sprightly top notes of a candle begin to evaporate and fade away. With eucalyptus, you'll begin to notice an earthy scent emerge after the minty-citrus introduction. Camphor wood is the best way to describe it - it's woody with a distinct menthol undertone, which pairs perfectly with eucalyptus' already fresh scent profile. Then, distinctly green touches of fresh herbs will also come through.
Base Notes: Forest Air, Sweet Honey
Lastly, the stable "base notes" of a candle emerge for a long-lasting aroma that lasts for hours as your candle steadily burns. While eucalyptus never really loses its distinctly aromatic charm, the minty overtones will be replaced by subtle forest ozone and an underlayer of sweetness, not unlike honey.
Relaxation:Eucalyptus is renowned for its ability to help with stress. If relaxation is your goal, light up a eucalyptus candle! Its menthol-esque aroma is clean, crisp, and spa-like (not unlike a fellow spa scent, lavender), and will bring your mind to a better, more relaxed place.
Alertness: Although eucalyptus is often used as a way to calm down your mind, it's snappy, fresh scent also makes it a great addition to any home office or gym. Light up your eucalyptus candle at the beginning of your workday to introduce its bright aroma to your brain. Same goes for your workout - a eucalyptus-scented gym setting can certainly get you in the mood to work out.
Loosen Mucus: We don't recommend or advise using a eucalyptus scented candle if you're feeling sick (definitely consult a doctor if you need medical advice), but we'd be lying if we said this wasn't our favorite candle to light when we have a cold. The camphor scent in eucalyptus is a bit more pleasant than a vapor rub, but has the same general scent profile... This may just be the thing you need on-hand for when you don't have any mentholated cream to rub on your chest!
